Nottingham Produce Stakes round one: heats one and two
The 2010 Nottingham Produce Stakes began Monday with eight first round heats run over 500m. Each of the heats offered prize money of £100. The second round is set to go Friday, and the finals are scheduled
for 13 October. The top three greyhounds from each heat qualify for the second round.
2010 Nottingham Produce Stakes - Heat 1
In the first heat, heavy favourite Mill Jaguar came in with odds of 2-11. Jaguar is trained by Charlie Lister, back-to-back winner of the Trainers Championship, and has a long history of winning. The first
round of the Produce Stakes was no different.
Jaguar got off to the best start of the group, but it was Kilmurvy Romance taking the first lead of the race as they came around the second bend. Jaguar regained the lead on the third bend, but he took
the fourth very wide, allowing Romance to get back in front.
From there it was a sprint to the finish, and Jaguar proved his odds were warranted with an impressive surge towards the finish line. He took first place by ½ a length with a time of 30.40.
In third place, 3½ lengths behind Romance, was Shes The Star.
Eliminated from the Produce stakes in fourth place was Ucangobut. In fifth was Hurry on Kitty, and in sixth was Lode Ranger. Kitty and Ranger had especially long odds in this race at 40-1 and 20-1 respectively.
2010 Nottingham Produce Stakes - Heat 2
The second heat saw four hounds with long odds. The two hounds expected to finish in the top two spots didn’t fail, but 8-11 race favourite, Vatican Seamus, only managed to take second place. Instead it
was Saint Jack flying out of the traps, taking the early lead, and keeping it for a 4¼ length victory over Seamus. Jack’s odds were 2-1, and he finished with a time of 30.29.
Sneaking into the second round with a third place finish in the second heat was Fabulous Path (10-1). Path finished a length behind Seamus, and 2 lengths ahead of fourth place finisher, Untill The End.
Supreme Cannon was in the mix until the third bend, but couldn’t force his way in front of Seamus and finished in fifth place. Zider Zee got off to a slow start, and then took the second bend wide. She
finished in sixth.
