Nottingham Produce Stakes round one: heats six, seven and eight
Nottingham hosted the first round of the Produce Stakes on Monday. Eight heats over 500m were run worth £100 each. The second round is scheduled to start on Friday and the final will be on 13 October.
2010 Nottingham Produce Stakes - Heat 6
Going into the sixth heat of the Produce Stakes, trainer Paul Sallis, knew two things: that at least one of his four entrants would make it to the second round, and at least one would be eliminated. He
had four of the six racers in the heat, and the finish was about as good as he could expect as his hounds took the top four spots.
The 5-4 race favourite, Mcgahon Toots, took first place by 1½ lengths over Rock It Elite with a time of 30.29 seconds. Behind Elite in third place was Rock It Ronan. The only Sallis trained hound to miss
the second round in this heat was Rock It Jazz, who took fourth place, a ½ length behind Ronan.
Dantanion, a 14-1 longshot, was close to Jazz and Ronan, but couldn’t finish better than fifth. Well back in last was Filey Assasin.
2010 Nottingham Produce Stakes - Heat 7
Romeo Libery dropped out of the seventh heat and was replaced by Ile Ave He, who was a non-factor, finishing in last place.
It was Eye Catcher winning the race by 1¼ lengths over the 11-10 race favourite, Boys Of Winter, with a time of 30.71. Miles Better led the race early, but was passed by both Winter and Catcher after the
final bend. Better did hold on to third and will have another opportunity to win on Friday.
In fourth place was Lookoutforzeus, and in fifth was Cherubinyo.
2010 Nottingham Produce Stakes - Heat 8
The final heat of the first round saw another replacement as Chinese Joe was replaced by Grafton Come By. Just like the seventh heat, the replacement runner finished dead last.
Heavy favourite Micky Robbie (8-15) had little difficulty winning the last heat of the day. Robbie led after the first bend, and beat second place finisher, Rainman Reg, by 5 lengths with a time of 30.19
seconds.
Finishing in third was Telmarcs Hondo, a 20-1 longshot. Just behind Hondo in fourth by ¾ of a length was another 20-1 longshot, Dickybo Den. Fifth place went to Knockies Comrade.
