http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 county cricket club has signed Australian top-order batsman Ed Cowan as their overseas player for the first half of the 2013 season.
The 30-year-old Aussie opener, who is likely to feature in the Ashes series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 later in the summer, will be available to Mick Newell's side until June 21. His stay at Trent Bridge would cover seven LV= County Championship games and eight Clydesdale Bank 40 fixtures.
The move will allow Cowan to get used to with the English conditions ahead of the Ashes rivalry, and will also give him some extra time at the Trent Bridge wicket, the venue for the first Test of the 2013 Ashes series, starting on July 10.
This will be Cowan’s second county stint, after having played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 and Oxford MCCU.
Expressing delight over the deal, Cowan told media reporters that he was very keen to play some county cricket ahead of the next year’s Ashes series in England.
"I was very keen to play some division one cricket and I'm pleased to have the opportunity to do that with Nottinghamshire," the New South Welshman told media reporters after signing the deal at the Trent Bridge.
"There are a lot of good players at the club and Trent Bridge is a great venue so I'm hoping to make a good contribution on and off the field," he added further.

Notts, who finished fifth in the 2012 LV = County Championship Division One, will look to recruit another overseas player for the second half of the 2013 campaign.
Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket, Mike Newell, said: "Ed has an excellent record in Test cricket and there was an opportunity to sign him for a decent period given that a lot of Australian players were set to spend time in England on an A tour in preparation for the Ashes."
"Our priority was to find a player who we felt could score a good volume of runs in four day cricket but Ed has a good one day record as well and we're confident that he can make a difference for us," he added further.
