http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784’s Innings Recap
Glamorgan had to chase down 282 runs for victory against Nottinghamshire in a match of the Clydesdale Bank 40 at the St Helen’s, Swansea in England on Sunday, July 31, 2011.
The target was a stiff one, but the hosts had the batting strength to chase it down. They fought back really hard, but ended up with 260 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 40 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Rees-c1461, who opened the innings for the home team, was the top scorer of the innings with a terrific 90 runs. He didn’t get much support from his team-mates though, which resulted in the team’s loss by 21 runs in the end.
The pitch was still very good for batting and a healthy competition between both sides was expected. However, the pressure of chasing down a massive total proved to be too much for the hosts.
Glamorgan’s start was a solid one, as openers Rees and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Wagg-c1506 put together a solid half-century stand for the first wicket. They collected 70 runs at the top of the order, laying a solid platform for the team.
Wagg was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings and was sent back to the pavilion after adding 34 runs to the total. He did not waste too much time, scoring his runs off 39 balls with the help of three boundaries.
The hosts’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Petersen-c1028 looked impressive in his outing, but was unable to make a huge impression. The South African batsman collected 22 runs off 18 balls with the help of a couple of fours and one six and was the second wicket to fall in the
innings.
There was a solid 66-run stand between Rees and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jim-Allenby-c1695, which guided the team into a very good position. The latter failed to carry onto the start, getting out for 24 runs from 20 balls.
Just four balls later, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stewart-c91370 Walters was also sent back to the pavilion. The middle-order player failed to open his account, leaving his side under immense pressure.
Chris Cooke and Michael O’Shea got out on consecutive balls, leaving the team in a struggling position at 185/6.
The pressure seemed to be too much for Rees, who was quickly running out of partners at one end. He failed to bat until the end and got out after contributing 90 runs to the total from the same number of deliveries. The stylish opener struck five fours and
four massive sixes in his outing.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Cosker-c1350 scored 29 and 39 respectively towards the end of the innings, but it was not enough for the team to win the match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426 was the pick of the bowlers, dismissed four batsmen in the match.
