Nottinghamshire overcame Gloucestershire by 19 runs in a high scoring Group C game of the Clydesdale Bank 40, at the College Ground, Cheltenham in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Sunday, July 24, 2011.
The visitors were all-out for 266 in the final over of their innings. They could have scored more than 270, as there were a couple of more deliveries left. The top scorer of the innings was opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Hales-c985, who collected 61 runs at the top of
the order.
In reply, the hosts fought back hard, but fell short of the total by 19 runs in the end. Middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Andrew-Cockbain-c63756, batted brilliantly, collecting 79 runs for his side. He ended up being the top scorer of the match, but failed to guide his side
to victory.
Nottinghamshire’s captain, Chris Read, decided to bat first after winning the toss. The pitch was excellent for the batsmen, as it was hard and dry. The conditions were expected to remain the same throughout the match, which helped provide fantastic entertainment
to the crowd.
The start for the visitors was not a very good one, as opening batsman Ali Brown was sent back to the pavilion after adding just eight runs to the total.
However, the innings was put on track by Hales and Riki Wessles. The pair put together 77 runs for the second wicket partnership before the latter got out. He failed to carry onto the start to his innings and was dismissed after collecting a quick fire 37
off 24 balls, clobbering four fours and three thunderous sixes.
Hales played a blistering innings of 61 runs off 32 deliveries. Most of his runs came in boundaries, as he smashed 10 fours and two massive sixes. The seasoned campaigner got out in the 12th over after giving a spectacular start.
