Nottinghamshire v Loughborough MCCU - Marylebone Cricket Club University Matches – Match Update
Nottinghamshire 528 & 290/5d v Loughborough MCCU 148 & 28/0 (13.0 ov) - Match drawn
The three-day match between Nottinghamshire and Loughborough MCCU in the Marylebone Cricket Club University Matches ended in a draw on April 03, 2012, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
After Nottinghamshire smashed an exuberant total of 528 runs in their first innings, they took an upper hand against their opponents and should have gone on to win the match after they dismissed Loughborough MCCU on an unimpressive first innings tally of 148.
However, the match without a result left cricket fans disappointed as after witnessing two days of sensational cricket, the third day was expected to be even better.
With a second innings score of 183 runs for the loss of two wickets at stumps on the second day, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 began the proceedings on the final day with JWA Taylor and CMW Read.
However, in order to win the match, the side had gained enough lead and should have declared the innings in order to give their bowlers a fancy chance of dismissing Loughborough MCCU batsmen below the required tally.
Nonetheless, choosing otherwise, the side kept on batting with Taylor bleeding the bowlers by smashing stupendous shots almost everywhere.
Meanwhile, Reed was the first wicket of the day as he fell after scoring 28 runs off 29 deliveries.
With Reed back in the pavilion, Nottinghamshire’s remaining batting line-up kept ticking the scoreboard and provided http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 all the support that he needed to belt a well crafted century.
After posting 290 runs for the loss of five wickets and with Taylor unbeaten on 101, Nottinghamshire declared their innings.
Needing a humungous target of 671 runs to win the match, Loughborough MCCU knew that there was no other way than to end the match in a draw.
With the possibility of 15 overs to be bowled, Nottinghamshire made a wrong choice of delaying the declaration and should have done it earlier.
For both sides it was crystal clear that the game would end in a draw and perhaps that is why the last session was slow, where the bowlers seemed less willing to bend their backs.
Loughborough MCCU closed the proceeding by posting 28 runs on the board, with openers William Tavaré and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rhodri-Francis-Evans-c84764 on 13 and 14.
