May 10: At stumps on the second day of the ongoing four-day match in the County Championship Division One, between Nottinghamshire and Middlesex, the latter trail by 372 runs with seven wickets in hand in their first innings, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
The day started with Nottinghamshire resuming their first innings from 132 runs, with AD Hales on 71 and number-three batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 on 51.
However, before the duo could launch a damaging partnership on the second day, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 nabbed the wicket of Hales, who departed after scoring 79 runs, becoming the first wicket of the day. At the time of his wicket the batting side had managed to post 150 runs on the board.
It was then time for MH Wessels to come in the middle as he forged a daunting partnership with star batsman Lumb to add to the miseries of the fielding side.
The two batsmen were just in too good of a knick to let the bowlers gain an upper hand, as they belted sensational shots all around the park, exhibiting their superiority without a hint of remorse.
Finally with a massive tally of 233 runs coming from the partnership, the side lost the services of Wessels, who was run out after smashing a knock of 41 runs.
For Middlesex, things were not getting easier to say the least, as the departure of Wessels brought SJ Mullaney on the crease, who tormented the bowlers by smacking them all across the field.
This partnership forged another top total as the side then lost its next wicket with 328 runs with Lumb faltering after smashing a belligerent innings of 162 runs.
Mullaney was the next man to find his way back to the pavilion as he departed after scoring 60 runs.
Later the side ended their first innings by bolstering an intimidating total of 423 runs, giving Middlesex a huge tally to follow in their first innings.
Middlesex failed to prosper in their innings as they lost three wickets with only 51 runs before play ended with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Denly-c1703 on 32 and OP Rayner on nil.
