Question:

Novacaine or Intravenous Sedatives for wisdom teeth removal?

I had my evaluation for my wisdom teeth removal surgery and I chose to have novacaine over intravenous sedatives. Is that a good choice? What did you choose? Did anyone just have novacaine as an anesthetic? Tell me everything. A lot of my friends went to sleep... should I?

  1. i had mine pulled on lignocaine (the local anasthetic, injected into the mouth)

    either will work.

just be prepared for it being sore for about 2 weeks after, as the gum recloses.

iv sedatives have a higher risk, but you won't know they are doing it.

  2. If you are going to an oral surgeon, most won't take the teeth out unless they put you to sleep, which is the intravenous sedation.  The Novocaine is the numbing of the tooth itself.  When we take teeth out we do not sedate them we just you Novocaine, in the end it is easier on the patient because they don't wake up and get sick.  In the end its what ever you feel comfortable doing.
