Novak Djokovic, “ATP Tour Finals disappointing performance won’t spoil my year” – Tennis News
World No.1, Novak Djokovic, unexpectedly fell short of his fans expectations and crashed out of Barclays ATP Tour Finals after losing to his compatriot World No.9, Janko Tipsarevic, in his third group stage match.
Tipsarevic thrashed Djokovic in a close three-set with a final score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. That was something World No.1 has not experienced throughout the year. It was the fifth time in the year that Djokovic lost to someone but he
mentioned in the post-match press conference that this defeat won’t affect the terrific year celebrations at all.
Djokovic enjoyed one of the best runs in the field of tennis as he registered his 70th victory of the year in the Barclays ATP Tour Finals after defeating the semi-finalist of the tournament, Tomas Berdych, in an epic
three-set encounter.
During the press conference, Serbian stated “I had an unbelievable year. Nothing can really ruin that. I will always remember this year as the best of my life. I have more than enough time to get my old strength back.”
Unfortunately Serbia didn’t qualified for the finals of Davis Cup final so he would get extra time to celebrate his outstanding performance and get ready for the new season with the same enthusiasm and excitement. He said “Compared
to last year, I'm not playing Davis Cup finals, so I will have that extra week which will give me a bit more time to rest, a bit more time to prepare.”
The Serbian was suffering from shoulder injury and didn’t take part in Shanghai Open as well as China Open for the same reason. He made a short comeback in Basel and then tried again in Paris to get going but his shoulder didn’t
help his cause and he had to retire from both tournaments.
He mentioned earlier at the tournament opening ceremony that he is perfectly fit but it was clear that he was not on top of his game. Even his compatriot, Tipsarevic, stated that Djokovic was feeling the strain on Friday night.
World No.9, Janko Tipsarevic stated “I'm not trying to undermine my performance or my victory, but I can freely say that this was not Djokovic from the US Open or Wimbledon.”
Djokovic is planning to take some time off from tennis at the year-end and spend some time with his loved ones back in Serbia. He will start practicing from the mid of December and is expected to make a remarkable comeback with
100% match fitness.
