Novak Djokovic, “The Olympics are coming up. I want a medal" – Tennis News
With five ATP World Tour Masters 1000, three Grand Slam titles and record breaking prize money winner in a single year, Novak Djokovic eyes another crown and this time it is none other than Olympic Gold. Ten titles in a single
year and still holding firm to that world number one spot, Djokovic looks to fire in another major title to his tally, next year.
This year has been a dream season for the Serbian tennis icon and he looks to carry the prolific form into the Australian Open 2012. Recently he incurred a minor setback in the form of shoulder injury and wasn’t able to compete
in Shanghai and China Open; his comeback was also miserable with some forgettable performances in Paris and ATP World Tour Finals but he promises his fans to make an enthralling comeback and prove his worth once again.
Talking to the media representatives of a sports channel, Djokovic said, “It's true that I have improved but by a very small percentage". It clearly shows that he is still learning the traits of the game but not allowing anyone
to sneak closer to his number one spot.
He further added “It's the same game I've had the last couple of years. It's my mental approach on the court that's changed." He was playing tennis in previous years as well but couldn’t prove his worth on courts because he was
mentally bobbed down by big names like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. He has strengthened his mental focus and is able to triumph against everyone at the court.
Djokovic’s approach to the game has changed and he now thinks that he is able to surpass anything and everything. During his interview with the sports channel, he proclaimed, "That was the difference. I stepped it up. I matured
and said, 'It's my time. I can do it. I can win major titles'. I think luck falls on not just the brave but also the ones who believe they belong there."
World number one is resting at the moment and providing ample time to his shoulder to heal. He is scheduled to start the new season as a hot favourite in the Australian Open. He will be defending 10 titles next year which is never
an east task for any player in the world. Talking about his dream of winning an Olympic Gold, he said, "I'm only 24, and I want to have many more successful years. The Olympics are coming up. I want a medal."
