Novak Djokovic: I’m confident ahead of the Miami tournament – Tennis News
World number one, Novak Djokovic, will be defending his championship title this season at Miami. He has already lost one title in BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. However, his successful defence of the year’s first Grand Slam
tournament, the Australian Open, must have eased his nerves.
After the end of his Indian Wells journey in the semi-finals, the Serb was questioned about Miami and Djokovic stated, “It’s still a week to my first match, so I’m going to take some time, regroup. I feel physically well. I’m confident
ahead of the Miami tournament.”
One of the most terrifying rivals for the Serb defending champion is the legendary tennis icon from Switzerland, Roger Federer. He is hungry for titles and has never won in Miami since 2006. However, he is in emphatic run of form
in the recent past having won three back-to-back titles in Rotterdam, Dubai and Indian Wells.
Another threatening news for Djokovic is that Spanish number two, Rafael Nadal, is having a time of his life but not been able to clinch any title to his name. He must be itching to have his hands on the championship trophy in
Miami and register his maiden title in 2012.
Djokovic has defeated Nadal in the final of the Australian Open but is yet to face the Swiss Maestro, Federer. Two players that have powered down the Serb tennis icon include the number one Briton, Andy Murray and American tennis
icon, John Isner. The former defeated him in the semi-final of the Dubai Duty Free Championships this month whilst few days earlier the latter booked a spot in the title match of the BNP Paribas Open at his expense.
Good News for the Women Tennis fanatics is that the American former world number one, Serena Williams, will be seen in action after her cameo in the Australian Open earlier this year. Her elder sister, Venus Williams, will also
make a singles return to the tennis circuit after fighting a chronic disease of Sjogren’s syndrome. She played her last match in the US Open championship last year that way contested in August.
The stage is set for another master series championship. All big guns are fit and taking part in the tournament with no major injury news on the cards. Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, is still not sure of her participation
due to hip injury although she is included in the draw.
