Novak Djokovic “It was unfortunate” – Tennis News
World number two, Novak Djokovic, was virtually unbeatable in the previous year but went down to the most improved player of the current season, Andy Murray, in the final of the US Open Championship on the eve of Monday. He failed
to defend the title at the hard courts of Arthur Ashe, New York. He trailed by two sets but bounced back into the contest with a couple of set triumph. However, failed to deliver when it matter the most; in the fifth set and lost the battle.
Djokovic confessed, “Any loss is a bad loss. There is no question about it. I'm disappointed to lose but, in the back of my mind, I knew that I gave it all. I really, really tried to fight my way back – but I had a great opponent
today.”
He further added, “He deserved to win this grand slam more than anybody because over the years he's been a top player. He's been so close; lost four finals. Now he has won it, so I would like to congratulate him; definitely happy
that he won it."
The Serb has always praised those who have reigned supreme over him. However, there is no doubt that fans have not seen the number one Serb in the sublime run of form the in the current season probably due to the fact that he has
played so many matches in the past couple of years that he is completely exhausted and his body is unwilling to take more toll.
Before the encounter commenced, Djokovic made it clear crystal that there was no chance of he being friends with the Scot because the rivalry is required to raise the level of the play. Enemies fight with greater courage than friends
because there are grudges kept inside that are shouting for revenge of every point lost. Nothing like that happens between a friendly encounter. However, the rivalry was just for the court play and off it, they are like great buddies.
Djokovic further added, “It was unfortunate, really, to not be able to come up with big shots at the right time.” So, the disappointment is clearly depicted by the statements put forth by the reigning Australian Open Champion.
However, he will wait for the next opportunity to take the revenge and make sure that he doesn’t allow the number one Briton to sneak near the second spot in the world.
