Novak Djokovic: “It’s been a very long two years, but a very successful two years” – Tennis News
Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, was denied a hat-trick of Barclays Association of Professionals World Tour Finals by his arch rival from Serbia, Novak Djokovic, on the eve of Monday. He couldn’t squeeze another win to win the record
seventh title at the year-end and stooped to the superior ranked Serb in straight sets. Djokovic grinded out the win 7-6(6), 7-5 to claim his maiden season-end title of the career and it came at the most wanted time. Just as his father was struggling to fight
a battle for life in the hospital of Belgrade, the 25-year-old Serb provided a glorious moment to him that must have wiped off most of the pain in the body.
In the entire season, the Serb has fought extremely hard but couldn’t live up to the expectations of several occurrences; falling in the final of the tournaments that was a quite a shame for the number one player in the world.
He lost his top rank to the Swiss Maestro for few months as well. It all started at the Wimbledon Championships and lasted until the BNP Paribas Open at Paris where the Serb superstar regained the number one rank.
The Serb had won three of the four Grand Slam Championships last season but failed to repeat the heroics on two different occurrences; losing some crucial points. However, he picked up momentum towards the end; won three of the
four tournaments including the China Open, Shanghai Rolex Masters and the ATP Tour Finals. Earlier, he had grabbed the trophies in the Australian Open, Sony Ericsson Open and Rogers Cup.
Djokovic commented in a post-match press conference, “It's been a very long year, a very long two years, but a very successful two years. I didn't really know how I will follow up after incredible 2011, but I believed that I have
to use the time where I'm playing the best tennis of my life and I'm winning Grand Slams and finally realise what I need to do to win the major tournaments.”He added, “This was my time, my moment, and I needed to step in and really believe in my ability. So
throughout the whole season I've had lots of success and had some disappointing losses at big events, in a couple major finals.”
He has ended the second successive season as the number one player in the world which is quite an achievement. It is probably his time and world is bound to witness some more startling performances from this young lad.
