Novak Djokovic: Journey to the top of the tennis world – Tennis Special

The new world number one and Serbia’s star player, Novak Djokovic displayed his class this season to not only dethrone Rafael Nadal from Wimbledon but also capture his number one rank through his 43 match winning streak.
The Serbian super star is standing on an amazing 48-1 win loss record this season so far and with the recent victory over the former world number one, Spaniard Rafael Nadal, he not only clinched the famous Wimbledon golden cup
but also took a vast lead in his number one ranking spot which he earned after victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-final match of the same tournament.
"I can't find words to describe the feeling that I have right now," said Djokovic, shortly after he captured the third Grand Slam championship title of his eight-season professional career. "I managed to achieve a lifetime goal
and I managed to make my dream come true, all in three days' time. It's just an incredible feeling that I'm never going to forget. This is the best day of my tennis career.”
The 24-year-old Djokovic captured his third Grand Slam at Wimbledon where he banished the Nadal-Federer eight year era but claimed that men’s tennis is now more competitive than ever.
He displayed tremendous skills last year as well since he made a title round berth at US Open and Basel and triumphed at Beijing and Dubai. Djokovic also reached semi-finals at Rotterdam, Shanghai, Monte-Carlo and London and made
it into the last eight at Australian Open, Roland Garros and Rome.
The Serbian number one, however, raised the bar of his game this season to wipe out all tennis stars for a 41 match winning streak. He was an inch closer to level the record of tennis legend, John McEnroe with 42 match winning
streak. Djokovic lost to Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the French Open which is the only match he lost this year.
The Belgrade native had his best season of his career and which is just half over. He continued his winning ways with the two Davis Cup victories from last year into the Hopman Cup. He won all three of his matches including a win
over a former world number one, Lleyton Hewitt. Djokovic then went on to triumph his second Grand Slam at Australian Open after downing fifth seeded Andy Murray.
He continued his winning run by bagging all matches at Dubai, downed top seeded Federer, and then went ahead to dominate in the ATP Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells and Miami after upsetting top seeded Nadal in both finals.
Djokovic then came back home to win title at his home soil in Belgrade before overpowering in two more Master series at Madrid and Rome. He stun top seeded Nadal again in both final before entering French Open. Although he was
outclassed by the Swiss Master in the semis, he re-ignited his spark at Wimbledon to lift the maiden title here.
“I am still living a dream, it's the best day of my life!” Djokovic tweeted after earning the glory at ALL England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
The Monte Carlo resident will fly to Halmstad, Sweden on Tuesday for defending Davis Cup champion Serbia’s quarter-final tie. His team members are Viktor Troicki, Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic against a Swedish tandem which
is without world number five Robin Soderling.
