Novak Djokovic: “Roger Federer is definitely one of the favourites” – Tennis News
Reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, ousted all three players in Group A to take the lead and make sure that he attained the top spot in order to avoid a semi-final against the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer. It will always
help to boost his chances for the title that has always been a fan of Federer. In the O2 Arena at London, Djokovic dismissed the eighth ranked Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, in the opening clash.
It was a close contest but the Serb came on top 7-6(4), 6-3. One of the biggest and most awaited contests of the tournament was played between the third ranked Andy Murray and Djokovic. The Serb lost the opening set but despite
a massive home support for the number one Briton, he crawled back in the second set and inched the contest after an emphatic final battle. Final scores were 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. The final conquest of Djokovic was against the sixth seed Czech star, Tomas Berdych,
who lost the opening set very cheaply and couldn’t win the second set tie-breaker; losing out 2-6, 6(6)-7.
Despite such a miraculous performance from the 25-year-old Serb, he believes that the indoor hard courts king, Federer, is the hot favourite for the title. Federer who is yet to lose a match in the tournament is scheduled meet
the former US Open Champion, Juan Martin Del Porto, in his final Round Robin on Saturday. It will be an enthralling contest and a rematch from the final of the Basel tournament that was shockingly won by the bronze medallist from Argentina.
Commenting about the odds of winning the event, Djokovic said of Federer, “He's definitely one of the favourites, considering the success he's had on this court. He's been playing really well. He hasn't dropped a set. If we get
to play each other, it's always a challenge. Whoever plays him, Roger is always playing consistently well; especially in such a big tournament.”
He further added, “Well, of course. If you are winning matches obviously you feel better but still the fact is that it is the last tournament of the year for most of the players, so it is a challenge finding that last drop of energy,
physical, mental. That's the same for me. I played a lot of matches this year.”
It will be interesting to witness who will the victor this season. Will it be the 17-time Grand Slam Champion, Roger Federer, or the number one player in the world, Novak Djokovic.
