Novak Djokovic aiming to reclaim his world number one spot at the Olympics 2012 - Tennis News
Novak Djokovic, a man who aspires to become “the greatest” from a tender age of six, has the valour, confidence and passion of a champion. In reference to the competitors, his focus and determination has been spectacular in all the previous matches. Djokovic has an outstanding command on his game and he can intimidate his rivals with his strategic planning. According to critics, the 25-year-old right-hander has superb ground strokes and labours to improve his performance with every subsequent match.
The Serb’s career graph in the last few years shows transcending trend indicating the player’s excellence. He has claimed the world number one spot in July 2011. He won his second consecutive Grand Slam title at the Australian Open by defeating the Olympic champion Nadal in a fierce five-hour long match this season.
At the start of the year 2012, the right-handed champion was honoured with the title of “Laureus World Sportsman of the Year”. However, his performance has not been as splendid this season as it was anticipated. Although, Djokovic attained the top seed in Wimbledon this year, he lost to Federer by 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 and 3-6 in the semi-finals. He could only secure 59% of his points as compared to Federer’s 76%.
The critics believe that Novak’s performance has deteriorated resultantly, pushing him to the second position in the world rankings in this month. Irrespective of that, his fan following still thrives. The primary reason lies in the mere fact that the players have to face extreme pressure after attaining the number one rank.
“He is great for tennis,” says Bahrami. “He does great imitation of all the players, which I think it is fantastic. During the tournaments, his focus is great, and he is even more serious this year. The difference between us is that he is a great player and good entertainer. I am only an entertainer. When Novak wins tennis matches he makes people smile”.
However, despite of the overpowering odd Novak Djokovic is known for his determination as he is also quoted to have said, “I have always been going towards that lifetime goal and that is to be number one and to be the best is what drives me.”
The London Olympics is one of the greatest challenges that are in line for him. For now, he strives to accomplish his dream. After Nadal’s withdrawal from the game, it leaves an excellent forum for Novak to smash the hit and win the Armageddon.
