Novak Djokovic aims at winning all four Grand Slam titles in 2012 – Tennis News
World number one, Novak Djokovic, survived a six-hour marathon against Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal, to successfully defend his Australian Open title on Sunday. After that emphatic triumph, the Serb is looking to bag
all the four Grand Slam titles and register yet another history in his terrific tennis career. He already listed himself as the winner of the longest-lasting Grand Slam final by defeating Nadal on Sunday and now he looks to quadruple his Major titles tally
this year by winning Wimbledon, Roland Garros French Open, as well as the US Open.
He mentioned his goals during an interview with the media member after his triumph in the Australian Open. He stated, “It is the ultimate challenge to win all four Grand Slams. One player has done it, so it is possible. Obviously
the times are different. Tennis nowadays is much more competitive and much more physical and that makes that challenge more difficult to achieve.”
The player who has won all four Grand Slams in a single year is the legendary Rod Laver. He achieved that landmark in 1962 and then again in 1969; he stays the ideal for Djokovic and he looks to register such an elite record
in the history books during his supreme form. It is going to be a very difficult task provided that his arch rival, Nadal, is unanimously proclaimed to be the ‘King of Clay’ and he is the reigning French Open champion; it will be a landmark in Djokovic’s career
if he dethrone the majestic Nadal and win the French Open title this year.
He believes he can do it because his performance was pretty amazing in 2011 on clay courts in Rome and Madrid; plans to built upon that and practice hard to master those skills. He further added, “I have proven that, even
last year, winning back-to-back Madrid and Rome [on clay]. It was an incredible effort and gives me a lot of confidence and self-belief coming to the clay courts now.”
The odds that are put forth by the bookies all-around the globe for Djokovic’s triumph in all four Grand Slam tournaments is just 10-1. So, it will take something extraordinary from a man that has proven to be a superhuman
to achieve that goal. It is not unachievable but definitely one of the most difficult aim to accomplish in such a competitive world of tennis. This year is definitely going to be very interesting one for all tennis fanatics.
