Novak Djokovic all geared up for the Australian Open – Tennis News
World number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia is all geared up for the Australian Open, first of the four Grand Slam events taking place on the hard courts in Melbourne, Australia. Despite being exhausted and overloaded, the Serb is
fully confident for the Grand Slam.
The Serbian number one finished off his incredible season with a disappointing performance at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals held at the O2 Arena in London. He bagged the opener after rallying past seventh seeded Czech Tomas
Berdych in a three set thriller. However, Djokovic lost his track in the remaining round robin matches. He fell to fifth seeded Spaniard David Ferrer after receiving a breadstick and lost to compatriot Janko Tipsarevic after triumphing the first set.
Djokovic blamed fatigue and overloaded schedule for his disappointing performance at O2.
“It’s just that, you know, body says that it’s overload,” Djokovic said Friday after a loss to countryman Tipsarevic. “It’s been too much this year. Obviously mentally I feel a little bit drained, as well. I just don’t have that
freshness in my mind for the matches and I don’t have these dynamics that I had in all 10 months of the year. But this is something to be expected after a year that I had.”
The Serb is now resting till the Australian Open since his country is ousted from the Davis Cup. The Serb will have extra time for rest with Serbia’s exit and he hasn’t participated in any other tournament till the Grand Slam.
Djokovic will play some exhibition matches in Abu Dhabi and Australia to warm up for the Melbourne major event.
The Serbian Ace admits that his freshness and energy is missing as compared to his start of the season. He is not able to give is hundred percent because of little energy left in him at the year end. With the extended rest, he
is eying for his spark to re-kindle before the start of the new season.
“I had an unbelievable year. Nothing can really ruin that. I will always remember this year as the best of my life. I just want to prepare well for 2012,” the Serbian stated later.
24-year-old made an exceptional start of the season. He went into savage mode and unleashed his exceptional skills and abilities to go on a forty-two match winning streak, levelling to John McEnroe. However, injuries snapped his
streak and he was forced to retire against British number one Andy Murray in the Cincinnati Masters 1000 event. Djokovic grabbed ten titles including three Grand Slam titles. He also became the world number one in July, marking this season as his best season.
