Novak Djokovic all geared up to debut at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship 2011 – Tennis News
World number one, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic is all set to participate at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship 2011, a professional tennis exhibition event taking place on the outdoor hard courts in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The Serbian number one Djokovic will cap the entrants of the fourth edition of this tournament. He will become one of the six top tennis players who have participated in this event.
“I’ve heard so much about Abu Dhabi and it’s a place I’ve always wanted to see for myself and play here with some top competitors,” said the beaming Djokovic, who was delighted after his season’s success.
The tournament will be held at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City.
The Serb further stated, “this season has been very special as I’ve probably played the best tennis of my life, but I remain focused on the future and continuing my form into next season starting with Abu Dhabi. Obviously a tournament
of real quality to begin the season is vital for building early momentum and the MWTC is the perfect place to start.”
Despite a disappointing end of the season, the 24-year-old Serb gave his top notch performance in 2011. He won ten titles including three grand slams, the Australian Open, Wimbledon Championships and the US Open. At Roland Garros,
he made a semi-final berth before losing to a former world number one Roger Federer. Djokovic loss at the French Open ended his 42 match winning streak from the start of the season. However, he leveled the unbeaten record made by a tennis legend, John McEnroe.
The Serb successive run of form led him grab titles at Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami ATP events held on hard courts. Furthermore, the highest ranked player of the world, Djokovic kept momentum rolling on clay and swiped in titles at Belgrade, Madrid and Rome.
He maintained his composure on the hard court season again in the end of the year and bagged a title in Montreal.
He will join the likes of the 16 times Grand Slam winner and the last year runner-up, Federer. World number two and two-time defending titlist, Spain’s Rafael Nadal had also confirmed his return here. Both super stars will receive
a bye from the quarter-finals after being last year’s finalists.
Fourth seed is the Spanish number two, David Ferrer who also enjoyed a successful season including two titles. The last two entrants are the top French duo, Gael Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Tsonga recently made a final berth
at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals held in London last month.
