Novak Djokovic and Alex Bogomolov Jr. sail into the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open
Novak Djokovic defeats Denis Istomin.
Keeping to his winning streak, Djokovic won his second round match at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open on Friday. Djokovic squeezed his Uzbekistani opponent Denis Istomin out of the event in two easy sets 6-0, 6-1.
The Serbian got into the third round in just a time span of forty eight minutes, riding on his previous success at the 2011 BNP Paribas Open.
The match was an all-Djokovic show. The first set saw Djokovic landing 63 per cent of first serves, winning acceptable 80 per cent of points from them. Whereas, Istomin only managed to convert meager 18 per cents of points out of his first serves. The Serbian
took the benefit from his poor conversion rate and snatched away the first set with a bagel win.
In a run of good luck, the Serbian delivered 64 per cent of first serves in the second set and converted 69 per cent into points with his opponent lagging behind with only 29 per cent.
Djokovic cashed in on 100 per cent of his break point opportunities and sailed through to the third round with a breadstick win.
The Serbian on course for his 20th victory will face James Blake of United States in the next round.
Alex Bogomolov Jr. defeats Andy Murray
Alex Bogomolov Jr. of America ousted world number 5 Andy Murray of Great Britain in two easy sets 6-1, 7-5 at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open. It turned out to be a huge shock for everyone when the lower ranked American dismissed the top ranked Brit.
Despite the huge difference in the rankings, the American held all the aces and nailed it through to the third round of 2011 Sony Ericsson Open. The American emerged as the winner in just one hour and thirty five minutes.
The American got off to a flying start when he took the first set with a breadstick win and exceeded the expectations of the audience.
In the opening set, Bogomolov hit 53 per cent of the first serves and won 88 per cent of points from his them, which was enough for the American to bring his higher ranked opponent on his knees. World number 5 Murray hit 60 per cent of the first serves and
won a meager 47 per cent of points which was inadequate for the British to survive, so he suffered a breadstick defeat against his lower ranked opponent.
In the second set, Murray put the loss of the first set down to experience and fought back. He fired in 3 aces and 46 per cent of his first serves. He only managed to convert 59 per cent of his first serves into points. On the other hand, the American delivered
66 per cent of first serves and managed a meager 43 per cent on conversion. Bogomolov made a profit on his 40 per cent break point opportunities and stole the final set with a 7-5 win against Murray.
Bogomolov now moves on ahead to face compatriot John Isner in the next round.
