Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic keen to win the Hopman Cup title – Tennis News
World number one, Novak Djokovic, and the former top ranked WTA performer, Ana Ivanovic, are to represent Serbia in the Hopman Cup, the mixed team event to be played from 29th of December 2012. The duo is very eager
to win the championship title in Perth and start off their 2013 individual campaigns on a high note.
The two long-time friends had a memorable run at the Hopman Cup last year. Djokovic and Ivanovic rocketed to the title match of the tournament without facing any real trouble but had to pull out of the tournament before the big
match. Ivanovic was caught by an abdominal strain prior to the final matchup and team Serbia was forced to withdraw from the event. Surely Djokovic and Ivanovic will not desire to end their Hopman Cup campaign in that manner and they believe to claim the coveted
title for their country this time round.
"Novak and I have been playing this tournament for a few years now, so we really hope we can take a step forward and this year go all the way," the 2008 French Open champion said. "I felt so bad and for Novak too (at the 2011 tournament).
I really hope this year we can put it together and go all the way. We were so close and it was a bit disappointing the way it ended."
The former world number one is greatly inspired by Djokovic and thinks her tandem with the top ranked Serbian will bear fruits at the Hopman Cup.
"He is one of the very few persons I can play doubles with," she said. "It is great fun, he always makes jokes and makes me laugh and it is very relaxing."
Ivanovic has been struggling to get back in her true rhythm throughout the 2012 WTA season and has vowed to reclaim her lost glory in the upcoming professional circuit. A title win at Hopman Cup will surely assist both Serbians
to ignite their 2013 campaigns in a positive and confident manner.
Djokovic is currently in Abu Dhabi and will have to take on the world number five, David Ferrer, in the semi-final of Mubadala World Tennis Championship on Friday’s eve.
