Novak Djokovic awarded World Champion of the year by International Tennis Federation – Tennis News
World number one, Novak Djokovic becomes the third man to receive the International Tennis Federation World Champion award since 2003. Previously this award was nominated to the two legendary tennis icons, Roger Federer and Rafael
Nadal. This is yet another achievement for the Serbian that rounds-off one the most brought him some monumental rewards in the form of wins, titles, prize money and awards.
While talking about his entire year achievements and this award Djokovic said, “Starting with victory in last year's Davis Cup final, this has been an almost perfect 12 months for me. I have always dreamed about becoming the best
in the world, and to have won three Grand Slam titles and finished the year as No 1 is very special."
Serbian has been terrific throughout the year winning seventy encounters out of seventy-six total played making him the fifth player to register such a majestic high winning rate. These triumphs brought him ten titles that include
three Grand Slam titles of Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open. 2011 has been a dream year for the reigning world number one.
Supposedly, if he was not injured in the midst of September, he would have secured few more titles. His disappointing campaign in the year-end finale clearly suggested that he was not at all on top of his game and lost the sublime
touch.
Such an early exit for the Serbian in the year that is the most fascinating of his career was very disappointing for the fans but then again there was no doubt that he was the best player on courts throughout the year.
Recently he broke the record of winning record prize money of 12.6 million dollars in single year and took his tally of total titles to 28. Francesco Ricci Bitti, International Tennis Federation’s president was extremely delighted
to know that his league has such awesome players that rule the hearts of million fans across the globe. He praised Djokovic by saying, “Novak's achievements this year are remarkable in such a strong era for men's tennis”.
Receiving such an honourable award and enjoying an excellent year will definitely raise the morale of the Serbian. His recent performance might have deteriorated his overall facts and figures but the numbers of rewards and accomplishments
throughout the year will are good enough for the fans to keep high expectations from Djokovic in 2012.
It will be interesting to see who rules the next year; either it’s the reigning world number one, Djokovic, or former world number ones, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
