Novak Djokovic believes Roger Federer is the justified world number one – Tennis News
World number one, Novak Djokovic, believes that the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, deserves to be the number one player in the world. He will most probably power down the likes of the fourth seed Briton, Andy Murray, in the grand
finale of the Wimbledon Championships and reclaim his throne from the Serb superstar who has enjoyed the top rank for almost a year.
Federer ousted the defending champion, Djokovic, in the semi-final of the Wimbledon Championships on Friday in four sets. He won the first set 6-3, lost the second one 3-6 but came back strong to clasp the following two sets 6-4,
6-3. It will be eighth appearance for the Swiss legend in the grand finale of the Wimbledon Championships. He won six of the seven finals he played at London and therefore he is the hot favourite to grasp his seventh Major title of Wimbledon on Sunday.
Djokovic commented on his loss and the triumph of his arch rival on Friday. He confessed, “Look, if he wins and becomes No. 1 it's going to be well deserved. He's played fantastic this year. He's been so consistent. If he wins,
he wins. There's nothing I can do about it. The best player will win this tournament. I'm out. He was always there. Last couple years he didn't win a major, but he was in a couple of finals and always semi-finals. He's always playing close matches against
whomever. This is tennis. Of course he was so dominant, and then you had Nadal who made a great rivalry with him.”
There is no doubt that Federer is the class act and deserves all the acclaim he receives. At the age of 30, he is still as fit as any player in the world and can play five-setters with no problem. There has been no decline in her
game play and the Swiss legend is on his way to win the 16th Grand Slam title at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, London. The Centre Court will feature the final between Federer and Murray on the eve of Sunday.
Murray who is in pursuit of his first ever Grand Slam Championship will not leave an easy route for the Swiss Maestro to put his hands on the title. There is still one step to climb for Federer to claim the number one spot back
from Djokovic. Therefore, the hype is still there and anything is possible.
