Novak Djokovic believes he is at the peak of his career – Tennis News
World’s best player at the moment, Novak Djokovic, has stated that he is in the form of his life right now. The Serbian, who has ruled the tennis world in the last year and a half, added that he expects a lot from himself.
Djokovic is bidding to become the first player to hold all four Grand Slams at the same time since Australian legend, Rod Laver, did it for the last time in 1969. The Serbian defeated former world number one, Rafael Nadal of Spain,
in the final of last three Majors.
Talking to the media people, Djokovic said, “Mindset is always positive and I’m always expecting from myself a lot. I had the best year-and-a-half of my career and I believe I’m at the peak of my career at this moment. I definitely
want to use this confidence I have and try to make a good result here in Roland Garros.”
The Serbian has never advanced to the final at French Open so far in his career, falling in the semi-finals on three occasions. He was in the best position to win the French Open last year, as he had defeated King of clay, Nadal,
in straight sets in two successive matches on clay courts right before the French Open.
However, Djokovic was beaten by 2009 champion, Roger Federer, in four sets 6-7(5), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7(5) in the semis. Nadal, who had already lost four straight matches at the hands of Djokovic, capitalised on the opportunity and defeated
Federer to win his sixth French Open.
Commenting on the Spaniard’s chances, he said, “He’s always the favourite for this tournament. He even was last year. He’s always the number one favourite because he just is what he is on clay courts. He’s the most successful tennis
player ever to play on this surface. He played well in the Rome final.”
Nadal avenged his last year’s losses by beating the Serbian in straight sets twice during the build up to French Open. He put an end to his seven match losing streak against Djokovic by getting the better of him in the Monte-Carlo
Rolex Masters final.
In the last ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event before the Roland Garros, Djokovic lost his second consecutive match against the Spaniard, going down in the Internazionali BNL d’Italia title match.
Djokovic will start his campaign at the French Open by playing against Potito Starace of Italy in the first round.
