Novak Djokovic bidding for a perfect season ending after claiming the top spot – Tennis News
Serbian top ranked star, Novak Djokovic, will become the first player to finish season as world number one for two straight years since Roger Federer topped for four straight seasons. However, he is now looking forward to conquer the BNP Paribas Paris Masters
and the Barclays ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Finals in London for a perfect ending.
With the withdrawal of the 17-time Grand Slam champion Federer from the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, the Serb automatically captured the top spot in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings. As a result, he will finished the season as number
one for second straight season and is proud of what he achieved.
The jubilant Serb was quoted in a press conference:
“It feels very satisfying, and of course I'm very happy to be able to finish the season as No. 1. Obviously that serves as an indication of how good the season was for me. It was very difficult to follow up after 2011 and to expect, well, from myself to
repeat what I've done in that season.”
Djokovic is now looking forward for a perfect ending at this season. He is currently playing at the Paris Masters, an indoor hard court event held in Paris Bercy. With the withdrawal of top seed Roger Federer and the Spanish number one Rafael Nadal, Djokovic
is the favourite to win this event. He will face off the American contender, Sam Querrey, in his opening match at this ATP Masters 1000 event held in France.
The 25-year-old is also eyeing to carry his momentum at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, season-ending event held between top eight players.
The Belgrade native reflected:
“I'm very proud of the achievements. It was a very good year for me, but it's not over. There are two more very important tournaments to come... I just want to try to focus on those tournaments [to end] the year in the best possible way.”
The Serbian star has achieved great success this season. He conquered the Australian Open, first of the four Grand Slam events held in Melbourne, and reached far in several events.
