Novak Djokovic breezes past Grigor Dimitrov to enter round four – BNP Paribas Open 2013
World number one, Novak Djokovic from Serbia, trounced the Bulgarian star, Grigor Dimitrov, with a breadstick at the BNP Paribas Open 2013 on Tuesday. He summed up a 7-6(4), 6-1 victory against the Bulgarian to power into the pre-quarters
at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event taking place in Indian Wells, United States.
Seeded top at this event, Djokovic extended his unbeaten record this season to 15-0. He has conquered the Australian Open after ousting Andy Murray and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships by overpowering Tomas Berdych. The
Serb is eyeing for his third title at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The 25-year-old was quoted in a courtside interview after pocketing the match:
"He started off well today, but then I think he gave me the break with four double faults. I haven't done much really in the match in the second set when I made two breaks. It was all of his unforced errors, so I just needed to
hang in there and try to be patient. I just tried to stay positive and calm and hang in there and wait for the chances. So that's, I guess, the biggest positive I can take out of today's performance."
Djokovic made a dismal entry in the match. He lost his serve and eventually fell at 2-5. However, he capitalised on four double faults by the Bulgarian in the ninth game and dragged the set to a tie-breaker. The Serb prevailed
in it and eventually clinched the opener with a 7-6(4) score line.
The six-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic’s skills were fully polished in the proceeding set. He dominated in the set and ultimately pulled out the victory with a breadstick.
Next in queue for Djokovic is the local challenger, Sam Querrey. The American outlasted Australia’s Marinko Matosevic with a 7-6(5), 6-7(7), 7-5 victory in two hours and 47 minutes.
Elsewhere, the Olympic gold medallist Andy Murray also stole the show and progressed at this event. He outmuscled Yen-Hsun Lu with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in 88 minutes. As a result, the Dunblane native not only avenged his loss at
the Beijing Olympics 2008 but also set up a date with Carlos Berlocq.
