Novak Djokovic breezes past Kevin Anderson in the third round – BNP Paribas Open 2012
Serbian world number one, Novak Djokovic, continued his demolition job at the Indian Wells, beating the 29th seeded South African, Kevin Anderson, in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open on Monday. The top seed took one hour and 37 minutes of play to register his 13th victory of the running year with the final scores of 6-2, 6-3.
It appeared a pretty one-sided affair, with the South African number one player struggling to confront the belligerence of the mighty Serb throughout the matchup. It was Djokovic’s fourth victory over Anderson, giving him a 4-1 lead in the head-to-head series against him. The World number one played his natural aggressive game in the contest, nailing three out of six break points to root out his bewildered opponent in successive sets comprehensively.
Anderson utterly failed to register a single serve break in the entire matchup, remaining at a disadvantage all the way to defeat. His positioning in the match was quite miserable, as the South African was often caught wrongly placed to play his strokes in the contest. Djokovic gave very limited opportunities to Anderson and keep winning crucial points en route to victory in style.
"He's very aggressive on the return games," Djokovic said. "He has a great serve, as you can imagine for his height, so I had to return well, I had to just be patient, and wait for my chances. I haven't served well in the opening set, but then it all came down to his service games. I served well and put a lot of pressure on him and returned really, really good."
The defending champion, Djokovic, will play his next battle against the unseeded Spaniard, Pablo Andujar, for a place in the quarter-finals of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters Series event in Indian Wells. Andujar has been riding a terrific run of form in the tournament so far, beating Robin Haase in the opening round and then taking down the18th seed German, Florian Mayer, in straight sets in the second round. He then outshined his fellow compatriot, Albert Ramos, to book a date with the word number one in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open.
