Novak Djokovic chosen as the ITWA Ambassador of the Year – Tennis News
World number one, Novak Djokovic, earns another title to his name. He has been chosen as the International Tennis Writers Association’s Ambassadors of the Year courtesy to his outstanding performance in the field of tennis for
over a year or so.
The co-President of International Tennis Writers Association (ITWA), Paul Newman, took the honours of presenting the souvenir to the reigning Australian Open champion after his successful triumph against his seventh ranked compatriot,
Janko Tipsarevic, in the quarter-final of the Dubai Duty Free Championships on Thursday.
Although, he failed to defend his title at the sporting arena having lost to the number one Briton, Andy Murray, in the semi-finals of the contest still he will always be remembered for his world class performance for the past
three years especially in Dubai ( He has been crowned champion in Dubai for the past three years).
It is an award that doesn’t only count the on-court performances of the players but their off-courts gestures as well. The conduct they portray and their relationship with the media representatives as well. From the women’s category,
it was the former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, who stepped up to collect her award. She has stayed number one for over a year and has been a very effective member to enhance this sport all over the globe; featuring in several sponsorship events in
the recent past.
The other co-president of the International Tennis Writers Association, Sebastian Fest, was excited on announcing these two players as ambassadors. Talking to the media representatives, he stated, “Novak Djokovic had a great year
on the court, but he has also been a great ambassador for tennis. There are always big demands on the time of players who are so successful and he has been very professional in his dealings with the media. He set a very good example to his fellow players.”
Novak Djokovic has enjoyed the most successful season last year, having won 41 matches on the trot including the three Grand Slam titles; the Australian Open, the Roland Garros French Open and the US Open. He dethroned the reigning
world number two, Rafael Nadal, from the number one spot and has been ruling the world of tennis ever since that day. He registered an emphatic winning record of 70-6 and won the record prize money of 12.6 million dollars that made him the most influential
player in the world of tennis. He truly deserved this award.
