Novak Djokovic confesses ‘luck’ played a major factor against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga – Tennis News
Reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, commenced the Association of Tennis Professional Tour Finals with a victory against the eighth ranked Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, on Monday. Although it was straight sets 7-6(4), 6-3
victory but it didn’t went according to the plan for the 25-year-old Serb who wanted a better performance to lit up the chances of winning the maiden year-end finale title of his career. He confessed that the luck played a major factor in determining the winner
of the contest.
Djokovic stated in a post-match press conference, “The opening set could have gone either way and to be quite honest he was the better player throughout the opener. I faced many break points and I didn't have any of my own in the
first set. I managed to serve well, play well and stayed mentally tough and had to try and fight my way through and that was what I have done."
He added, “I think the primary focus should be on the next match, the next opponent and that is what it is right now. When I am playing Andy I need to be ready for long rallies and a physically demanding match so I am going to
use my day tomorrow to recover.” It was high 15th head-to-head encounter against the 27-year-old French and the head-to-head scores were in his favour with 8-6 prior to the encounter. Moreover, the Serb had won the last four meetings, all contested
in the current season. So, Djokovic was a clear cut favourite for the contest but the fight shown from the French powerhouse was applaud able.
Djokovic is tired due to the hectic schedule of the season but the courage and willpower is still sky-touching. The Serb is a bit disturbed from his family situation. His father is extremely ill and admitted in a local hospital
back in town so the Serb is mentally upset at the moment. The concentration level is very low and some uncharacteristic mistakes are creeping in his game style that is definitely hurting his level of dominance.
Reigning world number three, Andy Murray, is up next for the Australian Open Champion. It will be a big match for both players and one thing is for sure that the slightest of mistake by any player will cost him a lot. It is a battle
of minds as well as talent. Stage is set for Murray to register his second win at the year-end finale.
