Novak Djokovic couldn’t refute the impact of his father’s deteriorating health on his game – Tennis News
World number two, Novak Djokovic, lost to the 23rd ranked American age-fellow, Sam Querrey, in the second round of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris. He was the second seed contestant in the tournament and received a
first round Bye. So technically he was on courts for the first time and lost his opening match of the tournament for the first time in two and a half years.
The 25-year-old Serb was disturbed in the mind because a lot was happening in his life in recent times. He denied to put forth any excuse for his loss but indirectly pointed at his father’s illness that caused a lot of pain to
him recently. He made a round trip after reaching Paris just to see his father who is being treated at Belgrade Hospital for an acute respiratory illness. He reached Paris but went back to Serbia to meet his father and came back. He stated, “I travelled a
lot. Let's call it that way, even though I was here."
Reports about his father are not accurate; rather conflicting but one of the view of the Belgrade newspaper printed that his father is suffering from SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) which is a lethal disease. The newspapers
quoted, “The situation is really grave because in almost 80 per cent of cases it may end fatally."
Djokovic was not fully fit as well. He stated, “During the second set I already felt that physically I'm down, and I struggled in every game. It was a little bit of everything really. I'd rather not talk about it because it's going
to sound like I'm excusing myself for the loss. Sam played very well.” He is suffering from a stomach pain that erupts now and then and troubles the former world number one a lot.
The Serb is preparing for the year-end finale that is scheduled to kick-off in O2 Arena in London. Commenting about that, Djokovic stated, “I have a little bit more time to rest because I had a really difficult period in the last
couple of weeks.” He further proclaimed that a lot of things have been circulating in his mind in the recent times and unwanted things also took place that shook him a bit so he desperately needs ample rest before the conquest of London commences.
He might not be 100 percent fit but the motivation of Djokovic can rise anytime and the old form will be revived with the comeback of motivation. Let’s hope it happens sooner than later.
