NovaK Djokovic cruises into semi-finals, will meet Roger Federer
The Serbian number One, Novak Djokovic overcame Tomas Berdych yesterday in the Australian Open. The number three seeded player will meet the four-time Australian Open champion, Roger Federer in the semi-final of the tournament.
The world number three took the match easily after he gained momentum in the first set. Djokovic broke Berdych’s serve twice in the opening set. He took the advantage early with a 3-1 lead in the set, and then converted this early advantage into a win by
breaking serve yet again in the set to take it 6-1.
The second set was much more intense as both players gave each other a tough time. Djokovic had two break points in the very first game of the second set but Berdych was able to save the break. This gave some confidence to Berdych and he bounced back in
the match by breaking the Serbian’s serve and taking a 3-1 lead. However, Djokovic didn’t allow Berdych to take advantage of the break, and broke the service of the 25-year-old Czech to level the game.
The second set went into a tie-breaker and it seemed that Djokovic would take the set easily after he took a 5-2 lead. However, the Czech bounced back to level the tie-break at 5-5, but it was Djokovic who emerged as the winner in the second set eventually
to take a 2-0 lead over the Czech. The last set was yet again disappointing for Berdych as he wasn’t able to hold serve in the early stages. The Serbian took full advantage of the early break and took the final set 6-1, winning the match in straight sets.
Djokovic was delighted with the outcome of the match and stated, “I have to be very happy with the performance. Maybe the turning point was the tie-break in the second set where it went my way.”
He will next meet Swiss star, Roger Federer in the semi-final. The Swiss has an overall lead of 13-6 against Djokovic. Federer will have some psychological advantage over the Serbian player as he has won the last three encounters against him. Berdych also
predicted a tough outing for Djokovic in the semi-final. He stated, “He's going to play Roger next match, and that's always tough.  I think that Roger is really on the top form and playing really well.”
Both Federer and Djokovic are in tremendous form and will be looking forward to an epic match ahead.
