Novak Djokovic crushes Andy Roddick in the second round – London Olympics
Second seed, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, humiliated the former world number one from USA, Andy Roddick, in the second round of the London Olympics at Wimbledon on Tuesday.
The Serbian dropped just three games in the entire match, capturing it in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 in just 54 minutes to move to the round of 16.
Roddick provided some competition at the start of the contest, as there was no break of serve in the first five games to take the score to 3-2 in favour of Djokovic. However, the Serbian took complete control of the proceedings
afterwards, as he won three in a row to capture it 6-2.
In the second set, Djokovic started exactly from where he had stopped in the first, as he grabbed opening three games to race to a 3-0 advantage. Roddick succeeded in holding his serve in the fourth game to open his account but
that was all for the American, as Djokovic snatched three more back to back to close it 6-1.
The top Serbian player was almost unstoppable on his serve, as he pounded 14 aces on Roddick. The 25-year-old lost a total of just 14 points on his deliveries throughout the match. The Belgrade, Serbia resident continuously attacked
from the baseline, hitting incredibly 34 winners. The five-time Grand Slam winner did not face any break point and converted all the four he received.
Talking to the media people after the match, Djokovic said, “It was the perfect match in every sense. I delivered my best game, I think, so far this year on grass courts. I didn’t expect to serve as many aces, but both of my matches
that I’ve played here I’ve served really, really well. So that’s something encouraging for the next challenge.”
The 2003 US Open champion, Roddick, has never won a medal at Olympics and this was surely his last chance to capture one, as he is already 29-year-old now.
The American said while praising his rival’s game, “He played great. He was just in the zone. The conditions were perfect. He was hitting it well. If he is hitting the ball like that, my chance is to serve really well. I didn’t
serve great today. I hit the ball fine, [but] he was just too good from the baseline.”
Djokovic will lock horns with another former world number one, Lleyton Hewitt of Australia, in the third round.
