Novak Djokovic crushes David Ferrer to enter the final showdown – Australian Open 2013
World number one, Novak Djokovic from Serbia, breezed past the fourth seed, David Ferrer, with a breadstick at the Australian Open 2013 on Thursday. He penned down a 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 victory against the Spanish number two to power into the title-round at this
first of the four Grand Slam events taking place in Melbourne, Australia.
Seeded top at this major hard court event, Djokovic showed flawless performance to dismantle the Spanish veteran in their 15th encounter. After stealing the show, the Serb extended his lead in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
Head 2 Head Series by 10-5 against Ferrer and stayed on course to defend his title.
The Serbian number one made a thunderous entry at the Rod Laver Arena. After the Spaniard held his serve in the third game, Djokovic unleashed his flurry of groundstrokes and reeled off five games in a row.
Djokovic maintained consistency in his game in the proceeding set. After the world number five held his serve in the opening game, the Serb went berserk again and wiped out off five games consecutively. He held his remaining serves with poise and clinched
the set with a 6-2 score line.
The 25-year-old blasted into the third set and stroke out the opening four games before Ferrer could hold on. He then bagged the last two games and clicked the set with a breadstick.
The Spaniard was quoted in a courtside interview after bowing out to the top seed:
"He played very, very good. I didn't have any chance to win tonight. It was a good three weeks and I'm very happy for that. Of course, I am not happy with my game tonight, but this is tennis. I would prefer to play worse in the semi-finals than in the first
round. It is difficult to reach the final of a Grand Slam. Sometime it doesn’t depend on me, it depends on my opponent. When I made the semi-finals at Roland Garros, Australian Open, US Open, I lost to the best three players. I am trying to do my best every
match."
The Serbian ace is waiting for the winner of the match between 17th times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and the Olympic gold medallist Andy Murray.
