Novak Djokovic crushes Roger Federer to clinch Dubai Tennis Championships 2011 title
Number two seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat the top seed Roger Federer in straight sets to clinch his third consecutive Dubai Tennis Championships title.
Djokovic, who recently beat the Swiss at the Australian Open 2011 semi-finals, outclassed him again in Dubai by beating him 6-3, 6-3.
After the match, an ecstatic Djokovic said, “I played really well here. It's a great challenge playing Roger Federer and I had to be at the top of my game if I was going to win. This is one of the better matches that I have played in a while. I had to be
on the top of my game. I have had a good preparation and I am feeling good on the court and hopefully I can continue this momentum.”
Federer had a career advantage of 13-7 over Djokovic and was up 3-2 against the Serb in finals, but the stats did not go in his favour as the Swiss lost to his Serbian opponent in straight sets.
Additionally, Federer will be taking a break before he travels to Indian Wells. Upset to have lost, Roger said, “I started bad and then kind of got into the match, but things are over in a hurry sometimes in best-of-three-set tennis. Novak played great.
It's a pity I wasn't able to hang on a bit longer and especially in the second set to push him.”
Djokovic clinched his 20th men’s singles title from the 33 finals he has played. The Serb also pocketed $386,000 as prize money apart from having won 500 Association of Tennis Professionals ranking points. Runner-up Roger did not go home empty
handed as he won 300 ATP ranking points and took $181,500 in prize money.
Furthermore, the Dubai Tennis Championships Men’s singles final 2011 became the third-ever final in the history of the tournament that featured two of the top seeds, the first two featuring Rafael Nadal and Federer in 2006 and Thomas Muster and Goran Ivanisevic
in 2007.
