Novak Djokovic crushes Rogerio Dutra Silva in the second round – US Open 2012
World number two, Novak Djokovic, made short work of Brazil’s world number 112, Rogerio Dutra Silva, in the second round of the US Open in New York on Friday.
The second seeded player dropped just five games in the entire match, outclassing Silva in straight sets 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 in just an hour and 39 minutes and moved one step closer to his Grand Slam title defence.
Djokovic is on the roll at this final Major event of the season, as he has lost a total of just seven games in his first two matches. He had drubbed Paolo Lorenzi of Italy 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 in the opening match.
The Serbian carried his top notch form into this event, as he had performed brilliantly at the two lead up Masters Series events. The 25-year-old had captured the Rogers Cup title and ended runners up at the hands of Swiss Maestro,
Roger Federer, at the Western & Southern Open.
In the lastest match, Djokovic dominated his Brazillian opponent in all departments of the game, serving and hitting ground strokes almost flawlessly.
The Serbian started by capturing opening three games to take a 3-0 lead. The Monte-Carlo, Monaco, resident struck again in the eighth and sealed it 6-2.
Djokovic and Silva held their serves in the first two games of the second set to equalise the proceedings at 1-1. The Serbian toyed with his opponent afterwards, as he did not allow the Brazilian to claim even a single game, winning
it 6-1.
The defending champion remained unstoppable in the third set, as he clinched opening four games to race to a 4-0 advantage. The right-hander was merciful enough to award a couple of them to his rival and then closed it 6-2.
Djokovic shared, "It was different conditions today obviously from the first match I played, the night session. I didn't know much about my opponent. Never saw him play. So that could have been a difficulty at the start in order
to figure out what his game plan is. But I played well from the start to the end."
He added, "Obviously I want to spend as little time as possible on the court. I have played a lot of tennis, a lot of matches, through the course of this summer. I had also two long weeks on hard courts in Toronto and Cincinnati."
The Serbian super star will play the 31st seed from France, Julien Benneteau, in the third round.
