Novak Djokovic destroys Michael Llodra; advances into quarterfinals – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Serbian juggernaut Novak Djokovic destroyed Michael Llodra in their fourth round match at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships in London, England on Monday, 27th June. The Serb took one hour forty minutes to seal his straight
6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory against the Frenchman.
Djokovic successfully opened serve and within minutes put himself on the scoreboard. Llodra, on the other hand, wasn’t as lucky as he hit three double faults to give up an early lead to the number one Serb. A successful hold of
his serve later, Djoker led the first set 3-0. Although Llodra managed to put himself on the scoreboard in the fourth game, it wasn’t to much avail since he lagged 1-3 in the set. Unable to make a comeback, Llodra continued to lag in the game score as Djokovic
served out the set comfortably at 5-3 with an into-the-net shot from Llodra at 40-15, going one up in the set score.
The Serb hit an amazing 79% on his first serve, registering an even more amazing 82% win on it. Taking only twenty eight minutes, Djoker hit eight winners and two aces as he rushed to a 6-3 win in the first set.
Having found his footing somewhat, Llodra held his own in the second set as he forced the score to tick on even terms. Levelled at three games each, Djokovic capitalised on a double fault from Llodra on deuce before clinching the
break on the Frenchman’s errant stroke to lead the set 4-3. The Serb extended his lead to 5-3 on his next service game. Practically handing over the game to Djokovic, Llodra committed several errors giving the Serb the break and a 2-0 lead in the set score.
The third set again started on even footing as the score remained tied for the first six games. However, leading 4-3 in the set, Djokovic broke Llodra to lead 5-3, before once more serving out the set to clinch his third straight
6-3 win for the match, in effect sealing his straight sets win.
Djokovic moves on ahead to play rising Australian qualifier Bernard Tomic in the quarterfinal. Tomic defeated Belgian Xavier Malisse 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 in his fourth round match here.
