Novak Djokovic devastates Andreas Seppi to reach the semis – Dubai Tennis Championships 2013
World number one, Novak Djokovic, powered his way into the semi-final round of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Thursday by outmuscling the Italian underdog, Andreas Seppi, in the round of eight. The top seeded Serbian juggernaut
took merely 65 minutes to register an assertive score line of 6-0, 6-3, booking a berth in the semi-final draw of the ATP World Tour 500 event in Dubai, UAE.
It was a completely one-sided affair, with the world’s number one player imposing his sheer dominance all the way to victory. Djokovic has defeated the 20th ranked Italian nine times in the past and comprehensively managed
to sustain his clean sheet in Thursday’s quarter-final as well. He now leads 10-0 in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series against Seppi.
As it was already anticipated, the top seeded Serb was off to a flyer in the opening set. Djokovic came out firing at Seppi right from the beginning the game him absolutely no time to get settled in the contest. He broke Seppi
in his very first game of the match and then launched a six-game rampage to devastate him. Djokovic broke his rival three times on the trot and rocketed away to 6-0 in barely 20 minute’s play.
The 25-year-old carried on his winning impetus in the following set as well and broke early to lead 4-1. However, Seppi managed to hold a couple of more serves before eventually submitting in the ninth game. Djokovic wrapped up
victory at 6-3 to reach the round of four.
Albeit a below par first serve precision of just 53 per cent, Djokovic dropped merely three points on it, securing 25 out of 28 in the match. He had eight break opportunities but only half of the conversions proved sufficient to
convincingly drive Seppi out of the tournament. On the other hand, the Italian underdog could barely manage to win 12 out of his 24 first serve points in the match and never registered a serve break in the entire matchup.
Djokovic will take on the fourth seeded Argentinean tennis ace, Juan martin Del Potro, in the semi-final clash of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Friday.
