Novak Djokovic dismisses Feliciano Lopez to enter quarters – Shanghai Rolex Masters 2012
Second seed, Novak Djokovic, got the better of the Spanish contender, Feliciano Lopez, in straight sets at the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2012 on Thursday. He nudged up a 6-3, 6-3 success over the former Top 15 to progress into the quarter-finals at this hard
court event taking place from 6th to 14th October in Shanghai, China.
The former world number one, Djokovic stayed on course to bid for his fifth year-to-date title after outsmarting Lopez the veteran at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. Battling each other for the fifth time, the Serbian star improved to a 5-0 lifetime
in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head Series against Lopez and secured a place in the last eight.
"I'm trying to enjoy the efficiency of my serve," said the jubilant Serb in an on-court interview after conquering the 31-year-old. "I'm not very well known around the tour for big serving. But so far in this tournament, and also in Beijing, it has been
working very well for me. It has been giving me a lot of free points, a lot of confidence into the matches."
Djokovic, who is coming off grabbing his third straight China Open title, assertively entered this ATP Masters 1000 event. He swiftly bagged his entire serves without facing any trouble. The Serb got the breakthrough in the eighth game and clinched the opener
with a 6-3 success.
Currently ranked second in the world, Djokovic maintained consistency in his game in the following set. He got the critical break in the third game and leaped to a 3-1 lead. The Serb then held his remaining serves and availed another break chance in the
last game, eventually sealing the set by winning six games to three.
Next in queue for Djokovic is the former world number two, Tommy Haas from Germany. The veteran stunned sixth seeded Janko Tipsarevic with a breadstick to secure this spot.
The top seed, Roger Federer, will join Djokovic in the following round. The Swiss sought his rhythm in the second set’s tie-breaker and after dominating it, he equalised the set scores. The 17-time Grand Slam champion then went berserk in the deciding set
and pulled out the victory with a bagel.
