Novak Djokovic dismisses Guido Pella to enter round three – French Open 2013
Top seed, Novak Djokovic, squeaked past the Argentinean challenger, Guido Pella, with a bagel at the Roland Garros 2013 on Thursday. He jolted down a 6-2, 6-0, 6-2 victory against the Argentine to progress into the round of 32
at this major clay court tournament taking place in Paris, France.
The Serbian ace prevailed throughout the battle to oust Pella in their first encounter. He is eyeing to capture his first French Open title and is bidding to become the eighth player to complete Career Grand Slam.
After the Argentinean kept his serve in the fourth game, Djokovic unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to reel off last four games. As a result, he sealed the opener with a 6-2 win.
The world number one, Djokovic maintained his intensity in the following set. He was never threatened with any breakpoint and wiped out all six games to grab the bagel.
The 26-year-old kept momentum sailing in the third set. He got the coveted break in the fourth game and leaped to a 4-1 lead. Djokovic held his remaining serves with poise and clinched the set with a 6-2 score line.
Overall, the Belgrade native manipulated a better first serve share of 72 per cent as compared to his rival’s 57 per cent and spectacularly marked 38 out of 49 points on it.
Next up for Djokovic is the 26th seed, Grigor Dimitrov, who triumphed over the local wild card entrant, Lucas Pouille, in straight sets to set-up this epic battle. The Serb bowed out to the 22-year-old at the Mutua Madrid
Open three weeks ago. He reflected about his upcoming match, "I think he's got more confident as he was getting big wins in the past few months, and so he's a tough player now to beat now, definitely. Even though maybe his style of play could be better on
the hard court or faster surfaces, he's showing that he can play equally well on clay. It's going to be a tough one for both of us, definitely."
The Bulgarian on the other hand commented about the epic battle in a post match press conference, "Playing against the No. 1 player in the world, it's of course a pleasure. But at the same time you've got to do everything from
yourself and you've got to do the best thing you can."
Dimitrov showed exceptional skills to overpower the Frenchman in one hour and 48 minutes.
