Novak Djokovic dismisses Tomas Berdych to grab the title – Dubai ATP 2013
World number one, Novak Djokovic, eased past the third seed, Tomas Berdych from Czech Republic, in straight sets at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2013 on Saturday. He notched up a 7-5, 6-3 victory against the Czech top ranked star to capture his
fourth crown at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 series event held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Seeded top in this event, Djokovic showed top notch performance to outshine the Czech in 90 minutes. After earning the spotlight, the Serb improved to 13-1 lifetime in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series against Berdych.
The Serbian number one stated in a courtside interview after the match:
“My serving today was great, [I had a] very high percentage of first serves, over 200 [kilometres per hour]. I really felt that I could rely on my serve. And in tough moments, that part of my game actually helped me to prevail. To be honest, I haven't played
as aggressive and maybe as good as I have played in yesterday's match [versus Juan Martin del Potro] or previous matches during this week. But that's also because I had [my] toughest challenge.”
The 25-year-old made a sloppy entry at this hard court tournament. He suffered the initial blow in the fifth game and fell at 2-4. However, Djokovic recovered in the eighth game and got back in action. He held his remaining serves with poise and got the
breakthrough in the last game, eventually sealing the opener by winning seven games to five.
Djokovic kept momentum rolling in the proceeding set. He swiftly bagged his entire serves. The Serb got the breakthrough in the eighth game and eventually clinched the set with a 6-3 score line.
The six-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic clobbered a better first serve share of 70 per cent as compared to his rival’s 60 per cent and impressively marked 38 out of 47 points on it. He fired eight aces and spilled fewer double faults.
The Serbian is currently unbeaten this season. He is coming off conquering the first Grand Slam of the season, Australian Open. Djokovic outclassed the Olympic gold medallist, Andy Murray from Great Britain, in a four-set thriller to retain his title. He
then outclassed Germany’s Olivier Rochus in straight sets at the Davis Cup before entering the Aviation Club Tennis Centre. The Serb breezed past his entire rivals without losing a set to set up a date with the world number six.
