Novak Djokovic dumps Andreas Seppi to advance in round three – Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2012
World number one, Novak Djokovic, eased past his Italian opponent, Andreas Seppi, in the second round of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters on Wednesday. He started his clay court campaign with straight sets 6-1, 6-4 triumph taking
just an hour and 28 minutes.
It was the sixth straight head-to-head triumph for the Serb who has already placed an ultimatum of ending the reign of world number two, Rafael Nadal, on the red dirt this season. Next up for the top seed Serb is the 16th
seed Ukrainian starlet, Alexandr Dolgopolov, who defeated the booming Aussie teenager, Bernard Tomic, in an enthralling three-setter.
Djokovic commenced the match with a serve hold and broke serve to take a lead of 2-0. He repeated the same phenomena in the following two games to cruise away with a lead of 4-0. It was a stunning start for the Serb who bagged
another serve game to gust past his rival with a resounding lead of 5-0 in the opening set. Serve holds for both players in the final two games of the set saved an embarrassing bagel for the Italian who was no match at all for the Serb.
Both players sneaked serve holds at the start of the second set before Djokovic set the tone with a breakthrough and took lead of 2-1. Serve hold in the following game further consolidated his potion to 3-1 and his competitor was
provided no opportunity at all make a comeback.
No player was able to convert any opportunity to break serve in the remaining part of the match. Djokovic was under the cosh in the eighth game but saved a breakpoint to register a serve hold. Seppi knew that he was up against
a legendary tennis icon so he made little effort to try and dismantle the confidence of the Serb.
With five aces to his name, the Serb tennis icon cruised into the third round of the tournament. Earlier in the day, Janko Tipsarevic ousted Albert Montanes and Gilles Simon plonked Frederico Gil, in straight sets to advance into
the third round of the tournament. Overall, it was a good day for seeded players.
