Novak Djokovic ends season with fifth best success rate in the history of tennis – Tennis News
World No.1, Novak Djokovic, had one of the best seasons, a player can ever dream off. He has maintained a 70-5 record this year with 10 titles to his name including three Grand Slam titles this year. He won US Open, Wimbledon and
Australian Open sparing just French Open Grand Slam title that was eventually clinched by Spanish No.1, Rafael Nadal.
It has been a terrific year for the reigning world number one and statistics prove the fact as he has maintained the fifth best ever winning percentage of 92.10% this season. He joins in the list of the great heroes from the world
of tennis including the John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.
Former World No.1, John McEnroe holds the best ever winning rate in a season with 82-3 record that translates into an emphatic 96.47% winning percentage overall. He achieved this outstanding run of form in 1984 that helped him
seal 13 titles in one season including two major Grand Slam titles of US Open and Wimbledon. His rare defeats came in Roland Garros French Open, Davis Cup and Cincinnati. Other than that he had a formidable season that is still the best for any tennis player
to date.
American tennis ace, Jimmy Connor, is the second in the list of the best success rate as he managed to win 93 out of 97 games played in a single season. This translated into an extraordinary winning rate of 95.88%. In 1974, Connor
won three Grand Slam titles including US Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Apart from three Grand Slam titles he won 11 other titles on his route to different states of the world. He was soon hit with major scandals but it didn’t deprive him of such a jaw-dropping
record. The four odd losses came in Omaha, Nottingham, Montreal and San Francisco but other than that Connor clubbed everything put forth to him.
The third and fourth best winning rate are maintained by none other than legendary Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer. He marks an era of record breaking career. During 2005 and 2006, he maintained an outstanding winning rate of 95.29%
and 94.85% to hold his spot in the list of best success rate records. He played 85 matches in 2005 and 97 matches in 2006 with just four and five losses respectively.
Federer win 11 titles in 2005 and coupled them up with another terrific season that helped him add 12 more titles to his tally in 2006. He won all major tournaments in these two years and was nearly unbeatable at that stage. No
way was near to his class and everyone was tore into pieces during that era of Roger Federer’s dominance.
These kinds of records happen once in a lifetime and Novak Djokovic was extremely excited on writing his name in the history books with yet another record.
