Novak Djokovic eyes two missing trophies, the French Open and the Olympics, in 2012 - Tennis News
World number one, Novak Djokovic, is not only focusing on all four Grand Slam titles of the year but also making a move at winning the Olympics gold medal that is missing from his title tallies. He hasn’t won Roland Garros French Open to date and looks to bag these two titles to complete his ever fascinating collection of trophies.
He paused for few minutes to answer the queries of several media representatives, after collecting his sportsman of the year award in London on Monday. Mentioning about Olympics and French Open, he stated, “Why not both? I will try to set up my form for Roland Garros first of all, where I want to get the title and go all the way through, and then I'll start thinking about Wimbledon and the Olympics."
The Serb has started his New Year’s campaign in an emphatic fashion, winning the season’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open. It was not easy at all for the defending champion to retain his title at Melbourne, especially when he faced his arch rival, Rafael Nadal and battled for almost six hours. He won an enthralling five-setter but not before both players registered a record longest Grand Slam final match time.
Last year, many players were arguing about the hectic schedule that is dismantling their body strength over the period of time and lowering their stamina. Djokovic was not bothered about this problem, this year, and stated, “I've learnt how to handle my schedule, how to handle myself on and off the court and to prepare for the biggest events. That is going to be the case this year."
Reigning French Open champion and Spanish number one, Nadal, must be eager to break his seven matches unbeaten run against the Serb. He is known as the king of clay courts so if Djokovic has to win the French Open (played on clay courts), he would have to dethrone the reigning champion which is going to be one of the most difficult tasks on earth for any tennis professional.
An added aim of winning London Olympics will put pressure on the Serb and he might deviate from his initial duties of defending the three Grand Slam titles he won last year. It is never an easy task to register two back-to-back breathtaking season performances but Djokovic is famous to perform superhuman stuff like that.
