Novak Djokovic hates playing on the new blue clay court surface – Tennis News
Reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, is extremely unpleased the way the blue clay court has responded during his first encounter on Tuesday. He bashed the ATP (Association of Tennis Professional) officials for not taking
into consideration the feedback of players and just imposing decisions on them.
He stated, “I hit five balls throughout the whole match." Djokovic faced a lot of problems in catching the ball on the court and adjusting to hit a correct shot. It was the main reason he lost the second set of the match against
the local tennis star, Daniel Gimeno-Traver. However, he recovered well to stay in the contest by registering 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 scores.
Djokovic further added, “Everything else I was just trying to put the ball in the court so I just rely on my serve and getting some points eventually from his unforced errors. For me that's not tennis. Either I come up with the
football shoes or I invite Chuck Norris to advise me on how I should play on this court."
He also proclaimed, “I know for certain that there are so many players that I talked to these last three or four days that share the same opinion. I take things very seriously regarding the surfaces and regarding our circuit.”
It means that the problem is not for him but for most of the players who are a part of this sport.
Such comments from a world class player are definitely worrying for the officials who seemed to have failed in promoting the new surface amongst the tennis professionals. Even the women tennis stars have also disliked the new surface
especially the Top-2 performers, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova, have bluntly stated that they are very disappointed to be playing on a brand new surface in a historic event.
Former world number one, Roger Federer, was also unpleased by the fact that blue clay court was tested this year for the first time. He mentioned that it is not the right time to test new stuff, it’s a master’s event and everyone
is playing it, so it is very difficult to transform and catch the pace of the new surface all of a sudden.
Djokovic will play his second match against the Swiss star, Stanislas Wawrinka, who defeated the 13th seed Spaniard, Jurgen Melzer, in a gruelling three-setter. If problems continue for Djokovic he might not make it
to the last four players that would be a great shock to everyone.
