Novak Djokovic humbles Kevin Anderson in the second round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Serbian juggernaut Novak Djokovic clinched his 43rd victory for the season after doing away with South African giant Kevin Anderson in straight sets in their second round match at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships in
London on Thursday, June 23rd.
The Serb took a little over ninety minutes to clinch a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Anderson.
In their fourth meeting on tour, Djokovic got off to a strong start as he rushed to an early lead in the opener.  As the Serb opened serve in the first set, a lucky break in the second and fourth game coupled with a successful
hold of his own games put Djokovic in a 5-0 lead. Although Anderson fought back and even managed a break to reduce the deficit, it wasn’t long before Djokovic served out the set at 5-3 with an ace and crosscourt backhand on deuce in the ninth game.
Taking a total of thirty minutes, Djokovic hit nine winners and two aces as he clinched a total of twenty eight points to go one up in the set score.
It seemed that the South African had found his footing as he met the Djoker’s blow for blow in the second set. Progressing on an even footing, neither player managed to break the other, forcing the scoreboard to continue ticking
on even terms. However, capitalising on a lucky break in the seventh game, Djokovic was able to extend his lead to 5-3. Serving for the set at 5-4, Djokovic hit a powerful forehand down the line at 40-30 to seal the second set 6-4.
Hitting a marvellous 85% on his first serve with a stupendous 87% win on it, Djokovic took a little over forty minutes to clinch a total of 32 points and lead the set score 2-0.
The dominant Serb continued his assault in the third set as he broke Anderson in the very first game, before capitalising on it to secure an early 2-0. Both players successfully held their serves for the next four games. Catching
another lucky break in the seventh game Djokovic led the set 5-2 before serving out the set in the eighth game with a powerful ace and sealing his straight sets victory.
Djokovic moves on ahead to play either Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis or Italian Andreas Seppi.
