Novak Djokovic ousts Ivan Dodig in second round fixture – BNP Paribas Masters 2011
World No.1, Serbian, Novak Djokovic stormed away winning his 2ndround match of BNP Paribas Masters 2011 on Wednesday, 9th of November, against Croatian world No.39, Ivan Dodig, closing down the match in an hour and 31 minutes.
Playing on Indoor hard courts at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris, France the top seed had mere difficulty in doing away with the Croatian, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, and into the third round of the event. Clashing out for the second time
this season and third time altogether, Djoker pulled through a three to nil head-to-head lead capturing the fixture.
Moving towards the match, the top seed was greeted with a standing ovation followed up the match toss and warm up.
Djokovic, top spotter, ignited the fixture as he served his first game and opened up the scoreboard, 1-0, with a triple game point winner. Following the world No.1, Dodig, Croatian, won his first serve of the set to even up the scores at 1-1.
Scoring his second point, Djokovic served out game three to lead the set, 2-1, however, the lead was covered up right away with the Croatian pulling off his second win of the set, 2-2. Winning game on respective serves the two once again levelled up at 3-3
and then at 4-4.
With two games left for either of the two to win the set, Djokovic took control as he served out game nine, 5-4, and won fired up a triple break/set point winner to finish off pocketing the set, 6-4. Leading the match with a set win, the Serbian top shot
continued with the second set opener.
Saving a near breakpoint, Serbian served out the second set opener, followed up by Dodig saving his serve and levelling up the scores at 1-1. Lighting up the set, the two bagged a game each next to even up again at 2-2 before the Serbian top shot hovered
over the Croatian to take his win.
With scores at 2-2, Djokovic served out game five, 3-2, and broke the world No.39 in game six to lead the set, 4-2. With just two more games to bag and make his way into the third round, the 24-year-old superstar served out two out of the last three games,
game seven and nine, to finish off the set 6-3, and the match in straight sets.
Through into the third round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event, the 24-year-old Serbian now moves on to play compatriot, Viktor Troicki, world No. 19, as the two battle out the quarter-final spot of BNP Paribas Masters 2011.
