Novak Djokovic ousts Viktor Troicki to enter round two – Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2013
World number one, Novak Djokovic, cruised past his compatriot, Viktor Troicki, with a breadstick at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2013 on Tuesday. He notched up a 6-1, 6-4 victory against his fellow citizen to power into the second round at this
ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 series event taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Seeded top in this event, Djokovic showed flawless performance at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre. He last played at the Davis Cup alongside Troicki and after bagging this match, the Serbian star improved to a 9-0 record this circuit. Djokovic conquered
his sixth Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open after defeating Great Britain’s number one, Andy Murray.
The Serbian top ranked star, Djokovic, jubilantly commented in a post match press conference:
“That was a great match, especially in the first set, considering the fact I haven't played an official tournament for three, four weeks. I wanted to be extra focused on the court today, because I also knew he has a big serve, as he had proven tonight, and
can be very dangerous on these courts. This is one of the fastest hard courts on the tour that I have experienced outdoors. So you need to be really committed to every point and play well.”
Djokovic high-spiritedly stepped into this outdoor hard court tournament. He dominated in the opening set and eventually bagged the opener with a breadstick. The Serbian number one was never threatened with any breakpoint and cashed both break chances to
clobber an amazing 6-1 success.
The higher ranked Serbian kept momentum rolling in the proceeding set. He edged past his fellow citizen and eventually clicked the set with a 6-4 win. Djokovic failed to block the lone breakpoint he came across but capitalised on two out of seven break chances
to steal the spotlight.
Next in line for Djokovic is the Spanish contender, Roberto Bautista-Agut, who dismissed Germany’s David Goffin in straight sets to set up this clash. He was broken twice but converted five out of 12 break chances to clobber a 6-2, 7-5 score line in one
hour and 37 minutes.
