Novak Djokovic outclasses Jeremy Chardy to enter fourth round – Wimbledon Championships 2013
Top seed, Novak Djokovic, got the better of the French star, Jeremy Chardy, in straight sets at the Wimbledon Championships 2013 on Saturday.
He recorded a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory against the Frenchman to secure a spot in the pre-quarters at this Major grass court tournament held in London, United Kingdom.
The Serbian ace unleashed his true potential on the Centre Court and triumphed over Chardy in their seventh encounter. As a result, he improved to a 7-0 lifetime in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series against the 28th seed and powered into the round of 16.
The 26-year-old commented in a courtside interview after stealing the show, “It was a fantastic match. I felt great from the start till the end. I had that super focus and tried to be out there every point and not allow him to come back in the match or to
have any chances. I saw the stats that I won 100 per cent of first serves and I served over 80 per cent of serves in the whole match. That was incredible for me. I enjoyed every moment of it, especially at the end. I managed to read his serve. Everything went
well. This kind of performance came in the right time for me.”
With a single break of serve, the world number one was able to pull out the opener with a 6-3 score line. He held his entire serves with poise and cashed the break chance in the eighth game.
Djokovic went berserk in the following set. After Chardy held his serve in the opening game, the Serb reeled off five games and cruised to a 5-1 lead. He then plucked his game once again and sealed the set by winning six games to two.
The Belgrade native carried his rhythm in the third set. He drew the first blood in the opening game and took the initial lead. Djokovic availed another break opportunity in the fifth game and leaped to a 5-1 lead. He slid his serve once more and pocked
the set with a 6-2 win.
This was Djokovic’s best victory at this event as he hammered 38 winners and committed only three unforced errors.
Next in queue for Djokovic is the 13th seed, Tommy Haas. He currently leads 5-3 in head-to-head series against the former world number two.
The German veteran made an epic comeback from a set down to secure a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 victory against Spain’s Feliciano Lopez.
