Novak Djokovic over powers Blaz Kavcic in the second round – French Open 2012
Reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, put up an impressive show, as he rolled over world number 99, Blaz Kavcic, in straight sets 6-0, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round at the French Open in Paris.
The top seed was looking in brilliant form, as he prepares to have an expected date with Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer; and King of clay, Rafael Nadal, in the semi-final and title match respectively. The Serbian is aiming to become
only the first player since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all the four Majors at the same time.
Coming back to his second round encounter with Kavcic, Djokovic was flawless in the first set, as he did not lose even a single game, breaking the Slovenian three times and grabbing six in a row to claim it 6-0.
Determined to not to go down without a fight, Kavcic claimed breakthrough in the third game of the second set and held his following serve to build a 3-1 lead. The Slovenian maintained his advantage till 4-2 but then Djokovic snatched
four successive games to win 6-4.
The Serbian and Slovenian started steadily in the third set, as they did not allow each other to break serve in the first nine games, taking the score to 5-4 in Djokovic’s favour. At that moment, the Serbian star won three of the
opening four points to make the score 15-40 but Kavcic saved both break points. The Slovenian put away another one later but not the fourth, losing it 4-6.
Djokovic pounded a total of five aces, bagging 36 of the 49 first and 17 of the 24 second serve points in the match.
The Serbian said, during the post match press conference, "He was defending really well in the second and third sets, especially in the second. I gave him the opportunity to come back to the match after a perfect first set, first
seven games. Of course I didn't underestimate my opponent today. I expected him to fight. I expected him to come back. He didn't have anything to lose, and he showed his quality and it was a really, really great second and third set.
He added, "I'm happy with the game overall. I think everything was working really well. I'm feeling better and better every match."
Djokovic is drawn to meet world number 286, Nicolas Devilder of France, in the round of 32.
