Novak Djokovic races past Viktor Troicki into the quarters – Wimbledon Championships 2012
World number one, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, showed no respite to his countryman, Viktor Troicki, as he bulldozed the latter in the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships on Monday.
Playing on the grass courts of the All England Club, the defending champion allowed Troicki to win just seven games in the entire contest, sealing it in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 in just an hour and 30 minutes.
The top seed is aiming to become the first player since Roger Federer in 2007 to successfully defend his title at the SW19.
Talking about Djokovic’s latest match, the Serbian moved ahead in the fourth game by breaking Troicki but lost his next serve, taking the score to 3-2 in his own favour. Though, Djokovic hit a blow again in the sixth one and this
time he made the most of it to win 6-3.
The 25-year-old, Djokovic, played almost flawlessly in the second set, as he dropped only one game till the end. The Serbian snatched three breaks of serve and held all of his own to triumph 6-1.
The third set saw a steady start from both players, as they held their serve in the opening five games to take the score to 3-2 in favour of Djokovic. The top Serbian player grabbed a breakthrough in the sixth and consolidated
on it to go up 5-2. Troicki held his serve in the seventh game to reduce the trail to 2-5 but he could not strike back, losing it 3-6.
Djokovic served splendidly well, pounding four aces and 76 percent of the first serves, converting 43 of the 53 of them into points. The Serbian was almost error free at the net, claiming 17 of the 20 points on volley.
The Serbian said, while talking to the reporters after the match, “At the start, I needed some time to get the rhythm and to kind of figure out where he's going to serve because he has a big first serve. But I returned really well.
I served great. The baseline game, I was patient and waiting for a chance to be aggressive. Everything was quite compact, and I'm satisfied.”
He added, “It's good for me to finish and have a day of practice tomorrow [to] get ready for [the] next challenge. They say the weather forecast is not really great. I hope they can finish so we can be on time.”
Djokovic will either the 18th seed, Richard Gasquet of France, or Germany’s 31st seed, Florian Mayer, in the quarter-finals.
